Victorian Tufted Velvet Tub Chair with Claw & Ball Feet, Late 19th Century

Item Details

This Victorian tub chair features a mahogany frame with a curved barrel back and integrated armrests. The interior backrest is finished with deep diamond tufting in an olive-green velvet, bordered by a decorative gimp trim. The lower front rail displays a hand-carved shell and foliate scroll motif, flanked by cabriole front legs. These legs are embellished with acanthus leaf carvings at the knees and terminate in well-defined claw and ball feet. The chair is supported by four brass casters, with the front pair featuring later-added black wheels. The rear legs are square-tapered and splayed for stability, and the underside is sealed with a contemporary black textile dust cover.
