French Louis Philippe Flame Mahogany Commode with Marble Top, 19th Century

Item Details

This classic Louis Philippe commode is a fine example of mid-19th-century French cabinetry, featuring exceptionally figured book-matched flame mahogany veneers across the front. The chest is designed with a characteristic ogee-molded top drawer followed by three deep, full-width drawers, all retaining their original brass-lined keyholes. The piece is crowned with a thick, grey fossiliferous marble top with soft rounded corners. Structural evidence, including hand-cut dovetail joinery and a traditional paneled back, underscores the authentic period craftsmanship. While the marble top has sustained a clean break, the wooden case remains robust, making this a stately storage piece that exemplifies the restrained elegance of the Louis Philippe era.
