1'11 x 7'10 Handwoven Mixed Technique Afghan Mashwani Carpet Runner

Item Details

This authentic Afghan Mashwani runner features a distinctive mixed weave construction, showcasing four central diamond-shaped medallions in a raised wool pile. These medallions are set against a flat-woven kilim field, creating a high-contrast textural effect typical of the Mashwani tribe’s ‘Basrjasta’ technique. The design utilizes a traditional geometric vocabulary including latch hooks and staggered border motifs in a saturated palette of deep madder red and charcoal blue-grey. The runner is finished with substantial flat woven end skirts featuring horizontal banding and is terminated with a short, natural wool fringe. The hand spun wool and traditional dyes indicate a late 20th century tribal production.
