Adam Style Painted Decorated Marble Top Console Table, 20th Century

Item Details

This Adam Style console table is a refined 20th-century interpretation of the Neoclassical movement pioneered by the Adam brothers. The piece captures the quintessential Adamesque ‘movement’ through its light, linear proportions and delicate ornamentation. The bow-fronted wooden frame is finished in a cream-colored wash and decorated with a hand-painted frieze of classical female masques and bellflower husks linked by floral swags—motifs popularized in 18th-century London. Supporting the apron are four elegantly tapered and fluted legs, a hallmark of the Adam Style that replaced the heavier silhouettes of the early Georgian period. The ensemble is completed by a substantial, shaped slab of yellow-veined marble, creating a sophisticated interplay between the weighted stone and the ethereal, painted wood base.
