Queen Anne Style Mahogany Armchair with Nautical Shell Upholstery, 20th Century
Item Details
This Queen Anne style armchair is crafted from mahogany and features the graceful, curvilinear lines characteristic of the 18th-century revival. The chair is designed with a shaped crest rail and a central vase-shaped splat, flanked by out-swept arms that terminate in elegant scrolls. It contains a removable drop-in seat, recently reupholstered in a decorative cream fabric featuring a nautical motif of shells, coral, and starfish. The substructure consists of cabriole front legs with rounded knees and pad feet, stabilized by a traditional H-stretcher with turned elements. This piece serves as a functional example of American traditional furniture, blending period silhouettes with mid-century manufacturing techniques.
