Victorian Flat-Top Steamer Trunk with Iron Strapping, Late 19th Century

Item Details

This late 19th-century flat-top steamer trunk is a classic example of Victorian-era travel luggage. Constructed of wood and reinforced with heavy iron strapping and corner guards, the trunk features a stackable low-profile silhouette originally intended for steamship cabins. The exterior retains its original red-oxide finish and cast-iron hardware, including a robust central lock. The interior lid preserves a fragment of its original decorative chromolithograph, a hallmark of 1880s domestic craftsmanship. This piece exhibits a rugged, authentic patina resulting from decades of historical use.
