Eastlake and Victorian Style Wooden Pedestal Tables, Early 20th Century

Item Details

This pair of early 20th-century occasional stands reflects the enduring influence of the Eastlake Style on American household furniture. The taller stand is characterized by its architectural notched apron and splayed legs, featuring an oval top and a secondary lower shelf for display. The companion tripod stand employs a more decorative silhouette with a scalloped pie-crust top and slender, turned legs that terminate in a graceful arched base centered by a turned urn finial. Both pieces are finished in a dark mahogany stain typical of the late Victorian and Edwardian transition periods. While displaying significant surface patination and water-related finish wear on the tops, these stands remain quintessential examples of the late-19th-century aesthetic movement’s shift toward geometric, notched, and spindle-turned ornamentation.
