Empire Style Mahogany Gueridon with Marble Top and Caryatid Mounts, 20th Century
Item Details
This Empire style gueridon features a classic circular form supported by a mahogany tripod base. The table is topped with a thick, dark grey stone slab, likely granite or dark marble, characterized by a fine granular texture. Each of the three tapered legs is embellished at the shoulder with a patinated metal mount in the form of a Neoclassical caryatid bust. The legs terminate in decorative metal mounts shaped like sandaled feet, resting upon an incurved triangular plinth base. While the silhouette is strictly derived from early 19th-century French Empire designs, the specific wood finish and assembly indicate a mid-20th-century revival origin. This piece serves as a sophisticated accent table, blending architectural Neoclassical motifs with functional modern materials.
