Antique Jacobean Oak Gate-Leg Drop-Leaf Table
Item Details
This rare Jacobean oak gateleg table is a significant example of late 17th or early 18th-century ‘Pilgrim-style’ craftsmanship. The three-board oval top features two generous drop leaves supported by hand-turned gate legs that swing out on iron hinges. The base is defined by robust, bulbous ‘cup and trumpet’ turned legs, characteristic of the 1680–1720 period, joined by a hand-jointed box stretcher for stability. The table showcases an exceptionally dark, age-darkened patina with hand-hewn edges and visible wooden peg joinery throughout. This piece reflects the muscularity and practical grace of early colonial furniture, bearing the deep scars and wear of centuries of functional use.
