Neo-Grec Style Ebonized Games Table, Late 19th Century
Item Details
This late 19th-century Neo-Grec ebonized game table features an octagonal top . The center is dominated by a black and white checkered game board, surrounded by ten intricate panels depicting classical figures, chariots, and mythological motifs in the Graeco-Roman tradition. The apron is decorated with deep gadrooned carving and conceals a single utility drawer for game piece storage. Supporting the top is a robust barley-twist pedestal terminating in a four-point base with oversized foliate scrolls and volute feet. The ebonized finish provides a stark contrast, making it a prominent example of Renaissance Revival interior furniture.
