Richard E. Gentry Bespoke Dutch Baroque Style Armoire
Item Details
This monumental three-part cherry kas was handcrafted in 1994 by Tennessee cabinetmaker Richard E. Gentry. Designed in the traditional 17th-century Dutch-American manner, the armoire features a dramatic, oversized stepped cornice embellished with three hand-carved lion masks. The central body consists of two large doors with intricate recessed rectangular moldings, opening to a spacious interior with adjustable shelving. The unit rests upon a substantial base section containing two side-by-side drawers with turned wood knobs, supported by large, classical onion feet. The piece is signed and dated by the maker on the underside, serving as a significant example of late 20th-century American traditionalist furniture making that prioritizes historical joinery techniques and solid wood construction.
