Keys to the City: Nashville, TN, Kidd Epps
Kidd Epps’ interior design and furniture fabrication is easy to spot around Nashville: just looks for clean lines, minimalist shapes and sleek pieces crafted with durable, mixed materials. His Art Shop, located in the Buchanan Arts District, is testament to Epps’s distinctive aesthetic and the timelessness of his pieces, whether they are walnut floating shelves or graceful light fixtures. “Buchanan is a wonderful neighborhood with a unique vision to become a hub for manufacturing great products and involving the community in the process,” he says of the up-and-coming area, where he’s among like-minded creatives. Here are some of Kidd’s favorite stops in the Buchanan Arts District and greater Nashville.
Nisolo
I met the team behind this socially conscious fashion brand when we became neighbors last year, and then was thrilled to make the display racks in their store. They create a beautiful and ever-expanding line of useful and well made goods that are manufactured in impoverished parts of the world. I have a great pair of their boots.
Holiday Salon+Barbershop
I always see Melody Greer when I stop in to this small welcoming atmosphere, which will leave you looking fresh and beautiful, and feeling like family.
Steadfast Coffee
There are so many great coffee shops in Nashville these days, but Steadfast seems to offer a bit more when it comes to craftsmanship. Get the breve or butterscotch latte.
Slim & Husky’s Pizza & Beeria
Stop in here for the best pizza in town, not to mention amazing local beer, and 90’s hip hop! Our shop provided all of the furniture, lighting, windows, doors, and design!
City House
This is definitely the top dinner spot in town! I classify the menu as Italian-Southern fusion with a variety of well done dishes designed and executed by James Beard Award winning chef, Tandy Wilson. You can’t go wrong with the Belly Ham Pizza.
Bicentennial Capitol Mall State Park
This is where my wife and I bring the kids to blow off steam after a long day of being in the shop. It has a great walking trail, and lots of cool granite features, including the Court of 3 Stars, a plaza encircled by 50 columns with carillon bells inside.
Nashville Sounds
Going to a Nashville Sounds baseball game is always a great bang for your buck and fun for everyone, regardless of whether or not you’re a fan of the sport. Plus they have Dippin’ Dots in miniature helmets!
Emil Erwin
The most well-designed and well made handbags in the world reside in our neighborhood at this beautiful atelier. Every single piece is made by hand, in-house, and it shows. Much like our company’s designs, these are pieces that you can buy and enjoy for a lifetime.
