Federal Style Inlaid Mahogany Kneehole Desk, 20th Century
Item Details
This Federal Revival mahogany bowfront desk features a classic seven-drawer configuration and an elegant convex silhouette. The desk is surmounted by an inset tooled leather writing surface, currently protected by a custom-fit glass top. Decorative elements include fine string inlay bordering the drawer fronts and a distinctive Greek key meander pattern inlaid on the square tapered legs. The hardware consists of period-style brass oval backplates with bail pulls, featuring a central urn motif typical of the Hepplewhite style. Construction details, such as machine-cut dovetail joints and secondary wood oxidation, identify this as a premium 20th-century American manufacture that masterfully interprets 18th-century ‘pilgrim’ and colonial craftsmanship for the modern era.
