7'6 x 9' Hand-Knotted Persian Ahar Area Rug

Item Details

This semi-antique Persian Ahar carpet, originating from the Heriz district of Northwest Iran, features a hand-knotted wool pile on a heavy cotton foundation. The design centers on a large, multi-lobed medallion with curvilinear floral tendrils, set against a saturated madder-red field rich with ‘abrash’ color variations. Ivory corner spandrels provide a bright architectural contrast, while a deep navy border with stylized floral motifs frames the composition. Though exhibiting signs of age-related wear and a weathered patina, this piece retains the legendary durability and structural weight characteristic of East Azerbaijan village weavings.
