3'5 x 10'4 Hand-Knotted Persian Luri Kurdish Long Rug
Item Details
This hand-knotted runner originates from the tribal weavers of Northwest Iran, likely within the Kurdish or Luri traditions. Distinguishable from the more common Hamadan by its dark wool foundation and lack of cotton wefting, the piece features a rare ivory field set with a vertical row of five madder-red medallions. The design is rich with ‘S’ motifs and geometric flora, framed by a charcoal-ground border featuring a classic reciprocating ‘running dog’ pattern. The use of high-luster, hand-spun wool and a supple, wool-on-wool construction marks this as an authentic tribal piece intended for domestic use rather than mass export.
