Louis XVI Style Ormolu Mounted Mahogany Console Frame, 20th Century

Item Details

This Louis XVI style console frame is executed in rich mahogany and lavishly adorned with gilt-bronze mounts. The rectangular apron features a central laurel wreath casting suspended by a ribbon, flanked by inset panels defined by beaded gilt borders. The structure is supported by four fluted, square tapered legs topped with classical Ionic capitals and floral rosettes at the blocks. An elegant, sweeping H-form stretcher provides additional stability and is finished with coordinating gilt-metal trim. Terminating in foliate-cast sabots, this highly decorative frame was originally designed to support a marble top or a fitted basin. While currently lacking its top, the frame remains a superior example of Neoclassical revival craftsmanship.
