Japanese Modernist Five-Drawer Chest, 1956
Item Details
This mid-century modern four-drawer dresser features a utilitarian design constructed from stained plywood and was completed in May 1956. The chest is configured with two side-by-side top drawers over two full-width lower drawers, all fitted with distinctive oversized cylindrical wooden bar pulls. An original paper inspection label remains on the reverse, identifying the inspector as K. Suzuki and providing a specific production date. The piece sits on a recessed plinth base and displays a dark brown stained finish. The drawer interiors reveal simple nailed construction.
