Hepplewhite Style Cherry Bowfront Chest of Drawers, 19th Century

Item Details

An elegant Hepplewhite style bow-front chest of drawers crafted primarily from cherry wood with a rich, figured grain. The case features a distinctive convex bow-front facade with four long drawers that increase in depth from top to bottom, each accented with traditional cockbead molding. The stiles are decorated with vertical fluting, a hallmark of the Sheraton influence, descending into short, tapered legs. A decorative shaped skirt with a central pendant adds a graceful lower profile characteristic of the Federal era. The reverse is finished with original wide horizontal planks, bearing historical chalk inventory marks. This piece embodies the delicate grace and refined proportions popularized by George Hepplewhite, emphasizing neoclassical symmetry and the beauty of native American cherry.
