Aesthetic Movement Ebonized Wood and Silk Fireplace Screen

Item Details

This Aesthetic Movement fire screen features an ebonized wood frame with Anglo-Japanese design elements. The structure is supported by two stiles topped with turned ball finials, connected by upper and lower rails with decorative pierced gallery work. The central rectangular panel is double-sided and rotatable, showcasing a red silk brocade face with detailed embroidery depicting a long-tailed bird perched on flowering branches among bamboo and butterflies. The reverse is finished with a pleated purple textile and black braided trim. The screen stands on splayed trestle feet, a form typical of late 19th-century fireside furniture intended to protect occupants from the direct heat of a hearth.
