Pair of Giltwood Louis XIV Style Fauteuils à la Reine, 20th Century
Item Details
This pair of Louis XIV style fauteuils a la reine features high arched backs and upholstered seats finished in deep red striped velvet. The wooden frames are finished in a distressed gold gilt, featuring scrolled armrests on turned columnar supports. The chairs are supported by a characteristic Baroque-style os-de-mouton H-stretcher centered by a turned finial, terminating in carved hoof feet. Decorative brass nailhead trim outlines the red leather-bound borders of the backrest and seat. These armchairs represent a 20th-century revival of French Baroque seating, designed with a weathered aesthetic suitable for traditional or eclectic interior designs.
