Sale Details

Everything But The House is pleased to present this book sale to benefit the Cincinnati Art Museum Library. This collection of books has been carefully culled from the archives of the library where they have been stored for many years. While this sale is small, it warrants your attention as many of the books are rare and not currently available elsewhere. An example of books and publications included in the listing;

  • A colossal folio collection titled “La Basilica di San Marco…” by Ferdinand Ongania published in 1878, illustrating every aspect of the basilica in big sheet format chromolithographs. This collection of work was considered to be a herculean effort and a copy of this publication was recently exhibited at the Basilica in Venice.
  • Five very rare copies (offered separately) of a booklet written by Maria Longworth Storer, founder of Rookwood Pottery, titled “History of the Cincinnati Music Festivals and of the Rookwood Pottery”. Interestingly, in the booklet the author charmingly explains her choice of the name “Rookwood” for the now renowned pottery.
  • “The Works of William Hogarth” a huge elephant folio published in 1822 by Baldwin and Cradock (London) plus several groupings of Hogarth’s steel engravings which were also from an 1822 publication.
  • Two first edition folio copies of “The Raven” by Edgar Allan Poe and illustrated by Gustave Dore, published in 1884.
  • “The Rime of the Ancient Mariner”, by Coleridge and illustrated by Dore, folio publication (1887)
  • A rare folio set comprising ten volumes of “The Masterpieces Of Italian Art”, published in 1886
  • A selection (ten separate bundles offered)of the 1920’s French Fashion Magazine “Gazette Du Bon Ton” and “Gazette Du Bon Genre” each containing fabulous color illustrations,many are Pochoirs, of Art Deco fashion by the leading illustrators of the day. The images are delightful as are the advertisements and the feature articles.
    …….and so much more.
