Looking for a creative way to add workspace to your kitchen without a lot of effort? When our home blogger, Amanda, snagged this vintage sewing table that had seen better days, she had no idea that it would solve workspace problems in her own kitchen.

“I brought it in from the garage after pick-up and sat it down in the kitchen before starting dinner,” she says. “As I cooked, I found myself setting things down on the table and a light bulb went off. I’m always saying that the best repurposing projects solve a problem and this little table solved a problem I didn’t realize I had!”

To transform the table, she gave it a fresh coat of DecoArt Americana Decor Chalky Paint in Refreshing. This paint goes on without priming and gives furniture a vintage-feel. After two coats, she waxed the piece with DecoArt Americana’s Clear Creme Wax to seal and protect.

After removing the swinging top, she added a new tabletop, stained to match the butcher block countertops in her kitchen. A fun knob from Hobby Lobby finished the look.

“Not only was this an inexpensive and simple solution to creating extra workspace in my kitchen, the new island doesn’t take up much space!” says Amanda.

You can snag your own vintage sewing table (like this one) to transform in our online estate sales. Use the search option to make “picking” simple and of course, we’d love to see your repurposed projects!
