A private gunning journal of Everett Smith. This hand-written journal covers the time span from August 2, 1866, to November 14, 1880. This personal account written by Everett Smith recalls the weather on any given day, the location of the shoot, the number of bagged birds and the bird species. A list to the back of the journal is marked with the number of birds of each species shot and how many of those were mounted. A detailed list of his hunting dogs, their measurements and physical characteristics are written with several hand-drawn pictures and lithographs of those dogs to the back cover. Loose leaf pages list clothing and supplies for winter hunting, bird sketches and list of necessary food rations.
