A mid to late 1950s vintage Pauline Trigère coat in a heavy black wool fabric. The fully lined coat is expertly tailored and styled with a wide notched collar having stitched detailing, a wide belted waist with a buckle and pass through loops, side pockets and a very deep vent at the back.
Pauline Trigère (French/American 1908 – 2002) was a well known couturier in the 1950s and 60s, best remembered for her inventive ready-to-wear fashions with expert tailoring. She won her first prestigious Coty American Fashion Critics’ Award in 1949 and her loyal clients included Grace Kelly, Elizabeth Taylor and most famously Jacqueline Kennedy.
