Japanese Champlevé and Cloisonné Bronze Vase

Item Details

A Japanese champleve and cloisonne vase. This bronze vase features a raised champleve border depicting various ships and birds on a windy sea, with cloisonne borders with floral and geometric patterns above and below this central design. The vase also has two stylized Asian animal handles. There is an impressed mark to the bottom of the vase reading ‘Made in Japan,’ and the piece is otherwise unmarked.

Condition

- chipping to enamel of cloisonné band to top region of vase; minor marking and discoloration to champlevé and cloisonné middle region; spots of white discoloration to lower region of vase’s body.
