An abstract oil painting on primed linen (primed with rabbit skin glue, sanded, reapplied, and sanded again) by renowned contemporary American artist Tom Levine (born 1945). This work is comprised of two trapezoidal canvases affixed together, forming a larger hexagonal composition. The shapes of the canvases are emphasized by color fields and gestural brushstrokes in greens, purples, yellows, and grays of varying opacity. The work is signed and marked ‘64/10’ to the verso.

Tom Levine was born and raised in Cincinnati, Ohio, and has painted since a young boy. He received a B.A. in English and Business from Miami University, a Master’s in Psychology and Communications from The University of Denver, and an M.F.A. in Art History from the University of Cincinnati. His abstract and figural has received considerable recognition having been exhibited and collected by numerous art institutions, such as the Museum of Modern Art, the Whitney Museum of American Art, and the National Gallery in Washington, among many others. Levine is also an avid art collector, having owned works by several of his peers including Roy Lichtenstein, David Hockney, and Jasper Johns.
