A late 20th century acrylic painting on canvas board by self-taught artist (Maria) Inez Hess (20th century). Portrayed in a traditional folk art style, this work features a truncated view of a winter landscape of populated by children playing and sledding in the snow. It is signed to the lower right and is presented in a wooden frame with gilt gesso moulding.

Born in Argentina, Maria Inez Hess was based in Pittsburgh and ran with a crowd of self-taught artists including John Graves, Kathleen Ferri, Robert Wright, and others. Referred to as the “suburban Grandma Moses”, she has exhibited her work at the Southern Alleghenies Museum of Art and the Pittsburgh Center for the Arts, among other venues.
