Mary Madeline Nourse Rookwood Pottery Humidor, 1896

Item Details

A Rookwood Pottery humidor by Mary Madeline Nourse, a Rookwood artist from 1891 to 1905. She attended the Cincinnati Art Academy and was the niece of Cincinnati artist Elizabeth Nourse. The exterior of the pot features two tobacco pipes with foliate design. The humidor is signed by the artist to the underside and bears Rookwood Pottery factory stamp with mold number ‘805.’

Condition

- crazing to glaze throughout; hairline fracture to base; loss of finish to one side with with color over missing glaze; loss of finish to underside of lid; dried sponge to underside of lid with some debris present.
