Regionalist artist Peter Hurd is known for his portraits, western landscapes, and genre scenes of New Mexico. After selling a painting to one of his supervisors at the West Point Military Academy, he pursued a career in art by enrolling at the Pennsylvania Academy of the Fine Arts and taking lessons from illustrator N.C. Wyeth, father of Andrew Wyeth. His work has been collected and exhibited by many institutions including the National Portrait Gallery of the Smithsonian Institution, the Metropolitan Museum of Art, and the Hurd La Rinconada Gallery, among others.
