A 1616 second state etching on laid paper by extremely prolific French Baroque printmaker Jacques Callot (1592 – 1635). The piece was printed as part of the 1616 series of 21 miniature portraits titled Varie Figure Gobbi or Grotesque Dwarves. It depicts a small man playing a grill as a violin. The print is marked ‘19’ in plate to the lower right. It has been trimmed within the plate marks and is matted in white. Information about the piece is written in graphite to the lower edge of the mat. The print is presented behind glass in a burled wooden frame with a hanging wire.

Condition

- paper is quite yellowed, consistent with age. Large darkened areas have toned the paper.
