A pair of antique books on the Union Army featuring first editions. Published by subscription only is the first edition of Nurse and Spy in the Union Army: Comprising the Adventures and Experiences of a Woman in Hospitals, Camps and Battle-Fields written by S. Emma E. Edmonds (W.S. Williams & Co., Hartford, 1865). This volume is bound in brown textured cloth boards with impressed gilt decorations to the covers and lettering to the spine with hand-sewn text blocks. The book features a tissue-guarded frontispiece of S.E.E. Emonds with other full page illustrations throughout the text. The book The Blue Coats is bound in blue cloth covered boards with gilt decorations and lettering to the spine and front cover with an impressed decoration to the back cover. The tissue-guarded, double frontispiece features Grant and Sherman in addition to the over 100 engravings and portraits throughout the text that includes multiple fold-outs.
