An oil painting on canvas by French artist Victor Emile Prouve (French, 1858 – 1943). The painting is a portrait of the child Jacques Majorelle (1886 – 1962), who would go on to be a prominent French painter himself. The painting is signed, dated, and noted as being for Jacques’ mother, Louis Majorelle, to the lower right corner of the canvas. It is presented in a wooden frame with elaborate cast decorations, gold tone finish, and a hanging wire. An information tag from Schwarz Gallery (Philadelphia) is attached to the verso.

Condition

- significant inpainting across, including a large area to the figure’s chin and a large 8" repaired tear to the painting’s left edge.
