Chinese Famille Jaune Da Ya Zhai Hexagonal Bowl
Item Details
A Chinese famille jaune hexagonal bowl displaying a wisteria and magpie motif to the outer circumference in sepia tone with a turquoise glaze interior. The bowl is inscribed ‘da ya zhai’ (Abode of Great Refinement) and in an oval cartouche an additional iron red ‘da ya zhai’ mark encircled by two dragons. This type of bowl was usually made for the Dowager Empress Cixi and was thought to illustrate her drawings. The base bears the four character overglaze ‘Yong Qing Chang Chun’ mark, Guangxu/Qing Dynasty, 1889-1912.
