Harold ‘Napoleon’ King was a self taught African American artist born in Miami who worked and resided in New Orleans from 1970 up to his death shortly after Hurricane Katrina in 2005. King utilized a variety of media and focused on depictions of the past in New Orleans and the Southern United States. Subject matter of his works included architecture, historic figures and genre scenes including those depicting slavery in the deep south in the mid 1800s.
