Tōkōen Hokuei Woodblock Print of Kabuki actor Nakamura Utaemon
Item Details
A woodblock print on rice paper by Japanese artist Tōkōen Hokuei (桃幸園 北英, 19th century). This print depicts the Kabuki actor Nakamura Utaemon (中村 歌右衛門) playing the role of Kujaku Saburō (孔雀三郎). It is inscribed to the upper and lower corners on the right side, and stamped with the artist’s seal to the lower right. This work is presented behind a white mat with a black liner, under glass, in a black frame that is equipped to hang. A label from Closson’s Galleries, Cincinnati is present to the verso.
