1941 Holton "Collegiate" Brass Clarinet
Item Details
A vintage Holton Collegiate clarinet, made of brass. Produced in 1941 in Elkhorn, Wisconsin, the clarinet includes the original bell, singular joint shaft, and mismatched mouthpiece. The bell bears incised maker’s markings to one side; stamped ‘149253’ to the reverse of the joint. Includes a wooden case with tongue and groove joinery with vinyl overlay and red fabric interior. The interior of the case is marked with a Willis Music of Cincinnati paper label.

Condition
- tarnishing and loss of silver tone finish; bell is dented at the connection to the rest of the instrument and does not stay in place; mouthpiece does not appear to be contemporary to the clarinet and has a sizeable dent to the end; the mouthpiece does not screw into place; the ebony mouthpiece has a chip to one side. The clarinet was not tested and components were not examined for full functionality.
- the case shows wear with missing vinyl at corners and loose hinges. Interior red fabric is bald in many places and shows exposed wood to one side.
