An 1891 etching on paper by listed artist John Octavius Anderson (United States; 1856 – 1898), published by Radtke, Lauckner & Co., New York. This print depicts a woman carting a loaded wheelbarrow down the dirt road in front of her thatch-roofed cottage. This work is unsigned. It is presented behind an off-white mat, under glass, in an gold-tone gesso frame with cast embellishments and a hanging wire to the verso ,

John O. Anderson was born in Cincinnati in 1856, and soon after his family moved to Iowa. He studied art under a variety of instructors throughout the United States before moving to Europe where he studied at the Royal Academy of Fine Arts in Munich. He later traveled throughout the continent, including a period of time with other students from the Duveneck School. He returned to the U.S. and established a studio in Keokuk, Iowa before accepting a teaching position at Washington University, St. Louis in 1883.
