An Art Nouveau cameo glass perfume atomizer by Emile Gallé (French, 1846-1904), signed around the base. The cameo glass vase is in ovoid form illustrating a spray of flowers and leaves in low relief in shades of plum and gray. Small sticker affixed to the bottom.
Emile Gallé was an important figure in the development of the Art Nouveau movement. After winning a Grand Prix at the Paris Exhibition in 1889, his art glass was highly sought by both museums and collectors alike. In 1900 he founded Ecole de Nancy to promote and preserve the aesthetics of the Art Nouveau movement while advocating the importance of a collaboration between art and industry. He remained president of the school until his death in 1904.
