French Brass-Mounted and Inlaid Faux-Tortoiseshell Bracket Clock by A. Chelot

Late 19th century. The dial retains an enameled retailer’s plaque for ‘The Loring Andrews Company / Cincinnati’ while the back of the brass movement is stamped ‘A. Chelot / France’ and ‘Medaille D’Argent Vincenti & Cie’. Other marks include ‘A.1’ and ‘1729 / 87’. Also included is a wall shelf/bracket as well as a sunburst pendulum, winding key, and case key.

- to fair; not tested; overall with various scratches, dents, marks, and abrasions consistent with age and use; structurally stable; some tarnishing and wear to gilding of brass elements; scattered small cracks and chips to faux-tortoiseshell ground; some lifting, loose, and missing brass mounts/inlay; front door of case is missing bottom hinge thus partly loose; interior baseboard is slanted and partly loose; fabric lining on top of bracket/shelf is partly loose and torn with some losses.
