A 2003 Mercedes-Benz SL500 Designo Launch Edition is one of only fifteen hundred produced and features a 5.0L V8 DOHC 32V engine which produced 302bhp at 5600RPM and 339ft-lb of torque at 2700RPM through a five speed automatic transmission that can be manually shifted from the cockpit. This rear wheel drive sport coupe has rack and pinion steering with independent front and rear suspension and rides on special edition five-spoke 18″ alloy wheels which are wrapped in matching Michelin Pilot Sport AS 3 tires with less than 2,000 miles and measuring 255/40 up front and 285/35 in the rear.
The Designo-specific cabin features Charcoal Nappa leather upholstery with an Alcantara trimmed headliner and A-pillars. This luxury sport convertible has a driver’s and passenger’s side airbag, front side air bag with head protection, four wheel anti-lock brakes, trunk anti-trap device, theft deterrent and Bi-Xenon headlamps. Designo Silver Metallic paint was exclusive to this limited-run trim level and this was the first generation of SL to feature an electronic folding hard top, replacing the cloth top and plastic windows of the past. This model includes a six-disc CD stereo, ‘COMAND’ navigation system, power windows, power and heated mirrors, rain sensitive wipers, telescopic tilt steering, load leveling functioning, individual climate controls, navigation and parking aids and comes with factory books and manual.
