An oil painting on canvas titled La Cadiere by American artist Philip Malicoat (1908-1981), created in 1960. Portrayed in the artist’s signature style with irregular gestural brushstrokes and loosely rendered forms, this work features an architectural scene in La Cadiere, France. Philip Malicoat studied with Charles Hawthorne at the John Herron Institute in Indianapolis, then settled in Provincetown where he continued his studies with Hawthorne and Henry Hensche at the Cape Cod School of Art. He became especially known for his scenes of Provincetown and atmospheric seascapes of the surrounding area. A Trustee of the Provincetown Art Association, Malicoat exhibited his work at the Corcoran Gallery, the Art Institute of Chicago, and the National Academy of Design, among other institutions.
