An early 21st century oil painting on linen titled Opus 18 No. 9 by celebrated contemporary artist Tom Levine (American, b. 1945). This large-scale color field composition features two vertical purple and blue stripes down the center of the canvas, comprised of layered pigments against a muted yellow ground. The work is signed and titled to the verso; it remains unframed.

Tom Levine was born and raised in Cincinnati, Ohio, and has painted since a young boy. He received a B.A. in English and Business from Miami University, a Master’s in Psychology and Communications from The University of Denver, and an M.F.A. in Art History from the University of Cincinnati. His abstract and figural has received considerable recognition having been exhibited and collected by numerous art institutions, such as the Museum of Modern Art, the Whitney Museum of American Art, and the National Gallery in Washington, among many others. Levine is also an avid art collector, having owned works by several of his peers including Roy Lichtenstein, David Hockney, and Jasper Johns.
