A late 20th century acrylic painting on canvas board titled Snow in the City by self-taught artist (Maria) Inez Hess (20th century). Portrayed in a traditional folk art style, this work features a truncated view of a winter town scene populated with a series of adjacent buildings, cars, and townspeople strolling throughout the snow-covered ground. Signed to the lower right, the work is presented in a molded wood frame. A handwritten descriptive label to the verso provides the title of the work.

Born in Argentina, Maria Inez Hess was based in Pittsburgh and ran with a crowd of self-taught artists including John Graves, Kathleen Ferri, Robert Wright, and others. Referred to as the “suburban Grandma Moses”, she has exhibited her work at the Southern Alleghenies Museum of Art and the Pittsburgh Center for the Arts, among other venues.
