William Fry Cincinnati Art Carved Oak Butler's Desk

An oak Butler’s desk in a late Empire style, with carved entwined monogram of WF, in two locations. The desk features a step back top with hinged boxed drawer, flanked by two small candle drawers with foliate carved fronts. Below is an ornately carved desk drawer (key included), featuring scrolled acanthus leaves and heraldic shield with three wolves heads and a raised arm, the family crest of the Scottish Robertson Clan. The drawer front lowers and the hinged top lifts, to reveal a divided interior with three drawers. Two carved and hinged panels, are to either side of the drawer, with the right panel having a Fry monogram. Below are two foliate carved doors, the right again, having a second Fry monogram and flanked by scrolled brackets with leaf carving and hidden storage, above carved scrolled feet. Circa 1880s.
The desk comes with printed letter and estimated value, from the Cincinnati Art Museum, dated Nov. 8, 2002.
