John Houle Sterling-Plated Regency Inspired Chafing Dishes, 1811
Item Details
A pair of antique weighted and plated sterling chafing dishes by London silversmith John Houle (registered April 1811). These matching pieces feature Regency inspired motifs with acanthus foliate handles above gadroon and reeded sections to the lids, as well as gadroon rims around the inserts, and acanthus leaf handles and footed bases. Each piece is stamped with the maker’s mark ‘IH’ alongside sterling passant lions, the London city mark, the ‘Q’ 1811 date mark, and a duty mark for King George III.
