Oil painting on panel
Signed to lower right
An original oil painting on panel by well-listed painter Abel George (Buck) Warshawsky (California/France, 1883 – 1962). The painting depicts an Impressionistic view of a path winding through a flowering garden, rendered in short, textured stroke of paint. The painting is presented in a wooden frame with a hanging wire attached to the verso.
Warshawsky grew up in Pennsylvania and Ohio, and studied at the Cleveland Art Institute, the Art Students League, and the National Academy of Design in New York under notable teachers including H. Siddons Mowbray, Louis Loeb, Winslow Homer, and Frederick Carl Gottwald. He then moved to France, and became known for both his loose, Impressionistic paintings as well as his hyperrealistic portraits. While living in France, Warshawsky frequented the Café du Dôme — a popular hangout for many prominent early-20th century artist and intellectuals — where he met and was influenced by other prominent artists of the period.
