1940s Lane Cedar Hope Chest

Item Details

A 1940s Lane cedar hope chest is a beautiful Art Deco waterfall style with a variety of wood veneer patterns and two handles. The rich, fragrant cedar interior has a shelf with three felt-bottomed compartments. The chest has a lock, but the key is missing. This lovely vintage chest is great to store linens, clothing and personal possessions. This Lane cedar chest was advertised heavily during WWII, when GI’s purchased hope chests for their loved ones before leaving for war. It is often referred to as the ‘sweetheart chest’. Lane Furniture began production in 1912, but unfortunately closed its doors in 2001.

Condition

The chest has scratches on the top surface and one of the swing hinges has been unscrewed in the back. The feet have a few chips and the right side has a few veneer wood pieces torn off (some are still inside the chest). The key is missing to lock the chest. The interior is in excellent condition and still has the rich cedar scent.
