Civil War Era Mansfield & Lamb 1860 Model Calvary Sword With Scabbard

Item Details

A Civil War era ‘Mansfield & Lamb’ manufactured calvary saber with accompanying scabbard. This 19th-century fighting saber is Union-made and presents the maker’s name on one side of the ricasso with inspector’s initial on the other side. ‘Mansfield & Lamb’ originates from Forestdale, Rhode Island and supplied thousands of these weapons to the Union soldiers at the end of the Civil War. This single-edged saber’s leather grip is retained and depicts minor usage. The blade design is curved and constructed of steel with a brass pommel and hilt. The inspector’s initial ‘C.E..W.’ are etched or engraved on the blade. With the original metals scabbard in place, there are dual suspension rings for belt mounting purposes. This Model 1860 Light Cavalry saber and scabbard with the date of 1864 was manufactured by business partners Henry Mansfield and Estus Lamb in Forestdale, Rhode Island. Issued to Federal horsemen during the last year of the American Civil War, this is one of 37,500 edged weapons produced for the U.S. Ordnance Department by Mansfield & Lamb during the war.
