Robert S. Moskowitz was born in Brooklyn, New York in 1935. He began his career as a technical illustrator before enrolling at the Pratt Institute of Art, where a course taught by Adolph Gottlieb shifted his work towards abstract paintings. Throughout his career he incorporated collage, material experimentation, and architectural themes into his work. Moskowitz was awarded the Guggenheim Fellowship in 1967 and since his first solo exhibition at the Leo Castelli Gallery in New York, has shown work at MoMA, Cambridge, and MIT, with a retrospective in 1989-90 at the Hirshhorn Museum. He lives and works in New York City and has work in many permanent collections including MoMA, the Guggenheim Museum, the Whitney Museum of American Art, and the Museum of Contemporary Art in Chicago.
