Eggleston was born in Belivdere, MN in 1867. He studied art at the Minneapolis School of Fine Arts under Douglas Volk, and later studied in Paris where he was influenced by the Impressionists. He is known for his Tonalist landscapes, portrait work and classical nudes painted in the juste milieu manner, embracing Impressionism, but not quite willing to abandon his roots in Realism. His work was widely exhibited during his lifetime including at the National Academy, Art Institute of Chicago, Pennsylvania Academy, Boston Art Club, Paris Salons, the Carnegie Institute, Brooklyn Art Association and more. His work is represented in the collections of numerous prestigious institutions, including Butler Institute of American Art; Museum of the City of New York; Frederick R.
